Members Email Meeting Updates

Hello Turner Valley Rate Payers,

It is hard to believe that it is now August and we are only a few short months away from the election of our new Town Council and Mayor. The next few months will, obviously, be very important to all of us as residents of Turner Valley. The choices that we make during this election will determine if we continue with the “tax and spend” habits of the current Mayor and Council, or if we will select a fiscally responsible group of elected officials.  I hope we elect a group that will hold the administration and employees accountable and insist that they reduce costs.

The Turner Valley Rate Payers Board executive and planning team have been meeting over the summer. We are continuing to strategize ways to help voters make informed decisions in October. We will be rolling out our plans for the municipal election over the next week or so.

The election will formally start with Nomination Day on September 18, 2017 and will end with the next General Municipal election on October 16, 2017. We are encouraging all residents to vote, but that is not the end of our work as members of this community. The new Mayor and Council will potentially be in office for 4 years. We must continue to engage with the elected officials and encourage them to listen to our ideas on how this community should be run. The next term may see some significant change to our community. With this change may come some significant costs to rate payers. On August 2, a special council meeting was held to discuss the newly released Amalgamation Report along with other items. We suspect the amalgamation of Black Diamond and Turner Valley will be a major portion of the new councils’ work. The Turner Valley Rate Payers Board want a fiscally responsible, professional group at the negotiating table. Turner Valley needs a group that can be counted on to act in our best interests, not in the interests of the employees who may need to find new employment or the interests of an elected council that may only have their own job retention in mind. The TVRPB will gathering more information for you on the amalgamation to help keep you informed.

We currently have two meetings of the leadership team and executive planned for August.

  • 7:30 PM Tuesday August 29, 2017 at the Sheep River Library

In these meetings we will be working on our Election 2017 strategies and opportunities.
